Vermont’s Elders and Persons with Disabilities (E&D) Transportation Program plays an important role filling gaps in existing transportation services for older adults age 60 and above as well as individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The E&D Program assists older adults and persons with disabilities in getting out of their homes to medical appointments, to the local adult day facilities, to senior meal sites, and for essential shopping. This service is door to door and supplements our regular transit service in the area, filling in gaps left by other transportation programs. The air filter in your HVAC system can accumulate dirt and debris over time. But the question is, should you clean your home’s air filters, or is it better to replace them? We researched the answer to this question, and here’s what we found.
Clean your home’s air filters frequently. But replace the HVAC filters at least once per year or when they accumulate a significant amount of dirt.

- Deal with vampire energy
- Switch off chargers
- Unplug less-used items during daytime hours
- Wear clothes more often before you wash them
- Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when you have a full load
- Use paper sparingly.
- Turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth or washing your hands
- Turn thermostats down by one degree (ask an adult to do this)
- Install a rain barrel for outdoor watering. Use water from the dehumidifier to water flower pots.
