Here are some great tips on driving safely in winter from VTRANS: Winter Driving Tips
The Highway Department is made up of a 3-man crew, Road Foreman Marc Johnston and his assistants, Josh Corey and Keegan Hawley. 30 miles of local roads, 10 bridges and 320 culverts are maintained by the Highway Department. In addition to year round maintenance of our local roads, the Highway Department is responsible for the repair and/or replacement of street signs, roadside mowing, ditch and culvert work, maintenance of all town equipment, review all driveway permit applications on Town roads, and maintain the town hall parking lot and landscape.
Snowplowing – In the winter months, our Highway Department is usually very busy at all hours of the day and night plowing and/or sanding roads during snow and ice storms. Please try to remember that there are scheduled plow routes to follow, and depending on the specifics of each storm, it can sometimes take longer to reach certain areas.
Our Highway Department believes that by working with you, our customers, we can continue to maintain the Town of Sunderland to the best of our ability. We need your help to identify deficiencies within the Town. Please contact the Highway Department if you see concerns of the following nature:
• Potholes
• Low hanging tree limbs
• Fallen trees or limbs in the Town’s right-of-way
• Culvert issues
